Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has for the first time in his career finished below 10th with his team as the Chinese Super League came to an end today.
Mikel’s team Tianjin Teda finished 13th on the log despite their 1-0 win over Henan Jianye in their final league game with Mikel playing the entire duration of the game.
He was booked for a push in the 7th minute of the game, his third caution since he joining the team from Chelsea, where he is use to finishing in the top half of the table.
However he is in the running for the club player of the year award despite missing three months of the season after surgery to cure a long term injury, and his return coincided with an upturn in the fortunes of the club as they were able to swim out of relegation.
