Nigeria: Jigawa State pumps N1.6bn into health sector

Jigawa State government has injected over N1.6 billion for the upgrade of health facilities across the state as part of efforts towards enhancing effective health care delivery.

The Commissioner of Health, Dr. Abba Zakari, disclosed this yesterday, saying the money will cover construction, renovation and provisions of working equipment for 12 hospitals across the state. The government, according to him, has released over N900 million to the contracting firm handling construc-tion work of Birninkudu General Hospital. Zakari added that government has awarded contracts for the renovations and supply of equipment to Roni, Fagam, Gwaram, Maigatari and Kazaure Psychiatric hospitals at N66.7 million, N64.8 million, N78.5 million, N49.1 million and N48.7 million, respectively. Others are Babura Hospital, N86.7 million; Ringim Hospital, N84 million; Gumel, N44.4 million; Kafin Hausa, N88.1 million; Jahun, N62.3 million; and upgrading of Birniwa Cottage Hospital to General Hospital at N106 million.
