Nelson Mandela was and still is one of the most respected and admired people on the planet. If you asked a person from any county to name a South African, you would hear his name over and over again.
Barack Obama and Madiba have teamed up to form part of what is now the most liked Tweet of all time. The U.S. town of Charlottesville saw thousands of White Supremacists, KKK members and neo-Nazi’s march to protest the removal of a Confederate statue. There were literally people walking in the streets with Nazi flags, saluting and brandishing weapons and shields.
One of the supremacists drove a car into a crowd of people protesting the hate groups. One young woman was killed and 19 were seriously injured.
That violence and hatred led to Former President Obama taking to twitter to tweet out a message of unity, all from a famous Mandela quote.
The tweet has been liked over 4 million times and retweeted by over 1 and a half million people. Obama followed up this tweet by completing the quote.
“No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.” – Nelson Mandela
With so much hate spreading at home and abroad, it’s nice to know that South Africa could play its own part (thanks to Madiba) in spreading the message of diversity, love and acceptance.
